The Design: Lettering can sometimes be used to form the outside edge of the pin which eliminates the need to border the pin with a separate raised edge. This allows the design to be enlarged taking up the space otherwise occupied by the outside edge. The larger size makes it easier to see the design and the elimination of the extra line reduces distracting visual clutter.
