The Design:

A 3/4 view is illustrated on this sculpted portrait medal.

When designing a portrait medal, the view selected is most important. It is far more difficult to capture the character of a sculpted face on a medallion than it is on a fully dimensioned bust, because one of the three dimensions (the one that comes out of the medal) must be selectively compressed.

Profile views tend to be the most successful as they require very little selective compression.

Face on views offer the least chance of success and should be avoided.

We highly recommend a 3/4 view. Although this view requires a bit more selective compression than a profile, it offers a much better opportunity to capture the character of the subject.
